NEEDING TO BOOK A SMEAR?

Reception staff will ask you some questions when you ask to make a smear appointment to ensure it is the correct time:

  • A smear is best done mid-cycle (if relevant for patient).   If you are actively bleeding at the time of the appointment please cancel and re-book the appointment.
  • Did your last smear show an unsatisfactory result?  If yes, you should wait a minimum of 3-6 months (as advised) before attempting another test as it cannot be done sooner.
  • Are you taking or using oestrogen cream/pessaries? If yes, you must stop using these 48hrs before your smear test or it cannot be done.
  • Have you recently had a baby, miscarriage or termination? If yes, you must wait until at least 12 weeks after the event before a smear can be done.   A smear cannot be done whilst you are pregnant

NON-NHS SERVICES AND FEES

Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges on a private basis.  We ask patients to pre-pay for some of these items.  Reception staff will advise you of this and the fee when you enquire.

You can find the policy here and in the Further Information section of the website under Practice Policies and Procedures: Non-NHS Work: Pre-paid fees policy for patients

Legal and other reports may also require some time to prepare as these are often done by the doctors outside the normal working day.

Examples include the following:

  • Medicals for pre-employment, sports and driving requirements (HGV, PSV etc.)
  • Insurance claim forms
  • Prescriptions for taking medication abroad
  • Private sick notes
  • Vaccination certificates
  • Certain travel vaccinations (see relevant section)
  • Power of Attorney / Guardianship forms

The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.

Please note, the Partners will not sign photographs to confirm identity.

A selection of fees can be found here  Non-NHS work - private fee list for patients - as at 1 January 2024
