Test Resultsblood_taking

When you attend for a test of any kind you will be told how long you should expect to wait for the results.  Most blood tests are available within 5 days, although some tests take 2 weeks or more.  X-ray results generally take 10-14 days.  Letters from hospital clinics can take weeks to be sent to us.  Please bear this in mind and call the surgery after 10.30am once sufficient time has elapsed.

The reason we ask patients to telephone after 10.30am is that there is great demand on the telephone lines early in the morning for patients calling about urgent matters and trying to arrange appointments for that day.  Leaving result telephone calls until after 10.30am allows telephone lines to be kept free so that patients with urgent problems can get through on the telephone.

Our reception staff are not qualified to comment on results and will only pass on messages to patients which the doctors have asked and authorised them to do so.   If you have had a test it is your responsibility to phone for results and make any necessary follow-up appointment with the doctor.

Please note that we have a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. In this respect we will only give out results to the person they relate to unless that person has given prior permission for their release or if they are not capable of understanding them.

Please also note that it is the responsibility of the clinician who initiated the test to provide the results, so if your test was taken at the hospital and not initiated by your GP, the hospital should provide the result as the GP may not be able to interpret the result fully.

Thank you for your help in supporting this policy.
