If you are ill while away from home or if you are not registered with a doctor but need to see one AND you will be in the area for less than three months you may be seen as a temporary patient.  This is at the GP practice's discretion.  Alternatively, you may be asked to go directly to the hospital.

You can be registered as a temporary patient for up to three months. This will allow you to be on the local practice list and still remain a patient of your permanent GP practice.

To register as a temporary patient simply contact the local practice you wish to use. Practices do not have to accept you as a temporary patient although they do have an obligation to offer emergency treatment.

It is our usual practice to accept temporary patients every second week, on a rota basis with Ladywell Medical Centre (West), with whom we share our building.  Should you attend when it is not our week to take temporary patients you may be asked to attend the West wing.  If you are staying with a family member/friend who is a patient at this Practice, you would be seen here, regardless of whose week it was to take temporary residents.  Please confirm this when you come to reception.
